Overview

Effective July 14, 2021, SolarWinds reduced the cost of maintenance for DPA customers who have individual VM Option licenses. To take advantage of the new pricing, and to enable future upgrades and license allocations, customers who purchased VM Option licenses must replace all of their existing DPA licenses. If you need to replace licenses, SolarWinds will notify you.

For information about how to replace your licenses, see Licensing changes when you upgrade DPA product SKUs. This article describes what you will receive if your licenses were replaced.

Resolution

For customers who purchased a “DPA VM Option” SKU along with either of the following SKUs:

  • Category 1 SKU: “DPA for Oracle EE, DB 2, or Sybase”
  • Category 2 SKU: “DPA for SQL Server or Oracle SE”

DPA will automatically migrate both the VM Option and the Category 1 or Category 2 SKUs at no charge to one of the following single SKUs:

  • “DPA with VM Option for Oracle EE, DB2, or Sybase”
  • “DPA with VM Option for SQL Server or Oracle SE”

A new Category 1 or Category 2 license key along with a VM Option license key will be sent to each customer and the previous license keys related to the replaced SKUs will be disabled.

You will receive new license keys to replace all of your current DPA licenses. Depending on how many VM Option licenses you currently have, some or all of the new license keys will correspond to the new combination VM + DB SKUs.

  • If you have a VM Option license for each Category 1 or Category 2 license, all of your new license keys will correspond to the new combination SKUs. For example:

    If you have:You will receive:
    • 40 Category 2 licenses
    • 40 VM Option licenses
License keys corresponding to one of the new combination VM + DB SKUs:
    • License key with 40 Category 2  licenses
    • License key with 40 VM Option licenses
    • 20 Category 1 licenses
    • 20 Category 2 licenses
    • 40 VM Option licenses
License keys corresponding to one of the new combination VM + DB SKUs:
    • License key with 20 Category 1 licenses
    • License key with 20 Category 2 licenses
    • License key with 40 VM Option licenses
  • If you have more Category 1 or Category 2 licenses than VM Option licenses, then you will receive some license keys that correspond to the new combination VM + DB SKUs.

If you have a mixture of Category 1 and Category 2 licenses, the Category 2 licenses are the first to be associated with the new combination SKUs in order to minimize maintenance renewal costs. However, the new VM Option licenses can be used with either Category 1 or Category 2 licenses. For example:

    If you have:You will receive:
    • 50 Category 2 licenses
    • 40 VM Option licenses
License keys corresponding to one of the new combination VM + DB SKUs:
    • License key with 40 Category 2 licenses
    • License key with 40 VM Option licenses
License key for the remaining licenses:
    • License key with 10 Category 2 licenses
    • 20 Category 1 licenses
    • 30 Category 2 licenses
    • 30 VM Option licenses
License keys corresponding to one of the new combination VM + DB SKUs:
    • License key with 30 Category 2 licenses
    • License key with 30 VM Option licenses*
License key for the remaining licenses:
    • License key with 20 Category 1 licenses
    • 20 Category 1 licenses
    • 30 Category 2 licenses
    • 40 VM Option licenses
License keys corresponding to one of the new combination VM + DB SKUs:
    • 10 Category 1 licenses
    • 30 Category 2 licenses
    • 40 VM Option licenses*
License key for the remaining licenses:
    • License key with 10 Category 1 licenses

*The new VM Option licenses can be used with either Category 1 or Category 2 licenses.
