Change the emulation in Internet Explorer when using WPM

The browser in not compatible messages in the failed transaction screenshot. WPM Transaction is failing with incompatibility message. Incompatible browser version. Internet Explorer 8, 9, 10, 11. IE8, IE9, IE10, IE11. Browser Compatibility.

Overview

This can be used as a tool to test playing WPM transactions in other versions of IE. WPM leveraged IE only to play its transactions. In environments with multiple WPM players, you can simply assign the transaction to a player with the desired version of IE instead of completing the steps below.

SolarWinds strongly recommends that you back up your registry before making any edits to your system registry. You should only edit the registry if you are experienced and confident in doing so. Using a registry editor incorrectly can cause serious issues with your operating system, which could require you to reinstall your operating system to correct them. SolarWinds cannot guarantee resolutions to any damage resulting from making registry edits.

NOTE: This only applies to the Deprecated Recorder and Player. The newer version uses Chrome/Chromium browser and is unaffected by the below emulation changes. 

  1. Run regedit.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION\
    1. WPM Player
      1. Edit the SolarWinds.SEUM.Agent.Worker.exe and change the Decimal value to the version required
        1. 11000 = Internet Explorer 11
        2. 10000 = Internet Explorer 10
        3. 9000 = Internet Explorer 9
        4. 8000 = Internet Explorer 8
    2. WPM Recorder
      1. Edit the SolarWinds.SEUM.Recorder.exe and change the Decimal value to the version required
        1. 11000 = Internet Explorer 11
        2. 10000 = Internet Explorer 10
        3. 9000 = Internet Explorer 9
        4. 8000 = Internet Explorer 8
  3. Restart the WPM Player.
