Cause

Change IP Address/Hostname of a SolarWinds Platform Server, Additional Polling Engine, and/or Additional Web Server

Resolution

Warning: Completing the Configuration Wizard requires all SolarWinds services to be restarted, which temporarily suspends all polling, alerting, and overwrites any edits made to the configuration files. This includes buddy drops, so if the Configuration Wizard is run, they will need to be re-applied.

  1. Stop SolarWinds services on the server where you are changing the address
  2. Change the IP Address of your Main Poller OR Additional Poller OR Additional Web Server
  3. Go to Start Menu > SolarWinds Orion folder > Configuration Wizard. Note that in newer versions, the folder name is SolarWinds Platform.

  1. Verify and confirm all information provided in the first and second Database Settings window and then click Next.
Note: If you are using an IP Address to identify your SQL Server, verify that this is still correct. If you have changed the IP address of the SQL server, update it at this time.
  1. Verify and confirm all information provided in the Database Account window and then click Next.
  2. Verify and confirm all information provided in the Website Settings windows and then click Next.
Note: If you are using an IP Address to identify your SQL Server, verify that this is still correct.
  1. If you are prompted to use an existing website, click Yes.
  2. When the Configuration Wizard completes, click Finish.
  3. Review the actions listed in completing the Orion Configuration Wizard window and then click Next.

Running the Configuration Wizard will automatically update the SolarWinds Platform with the new IP Address.

NOTE: If the SolarWinds Platform Server's hostname was changed, you will need to update to the new hostname using the SolarWinds Platform Migration guide new server article
