Bulk Editing Threshold Overrides
Overview
Threshold override settings can be edited in bulk in the SolarWinds Platform by grouping nodes by polling method, selecting the applicable nodes, and updating the override setting through Edit Properties.
This method is available in all versions.
Environment
- SolarWinds Platform
Use case
Use this procedure when you need to update threshold override settings for multiple nodes at one time, especially when your environment includes nodes monitored by different polling methods such as:
- WMI
- SNMP
- ICMP
Because threshold management is often easier when similar node types are handled together, grouping by polling method provides a practical way to apply changes in bulk.
Prerequisites
- Access to the SolarWinds Web Console
- Permissions to manage nodes and edit node properties
- Nodes already discovered and visible in Manage Nodes
Procedure
1. Open Manage Nodes
- Log in to the SolarWinds Web Console.
- Navigate to Settings > Manage Nodes.
2. Group or sort nodes by polling method
- In Manage Nodes, group or sort the node list by polling method.
- Identify the polling method group you want to update first, such as:
- WMI
- SNMP
- ICMP
3. Select nodes in the target polling group
- Select all nodes within the polling method group you want to modify.
- Confirm the selection before proceeding.
4. Open bulk edit
- Click Edit or Edit Properties for the selected nodes.
5. Change the threshold override setting
- In the properties window, locate the threshold override setting you want to modify.
- Change the override status as needed for the selected nodes.
6. Submit the change
- Click Submit to apply the updated threshold override setting to all selected nodes.
7. Repeat for other polling methods
- Return to Manage Nodes.
- Select the next polling method group, for example SNMP.
- Repeat the same process to apply the desired threshold override setting.
- Continue as needed for additional groups such as ICMP.
Example
If you need to change threshold override settings for all WMI-polled nodes first, and then for SNMP-polled nodes:
- Open Manage Nodes.
- Group nodes by polling method.
- Select all WMI nodes.
- Click Edit Properties.
- Update the threshold override status.
- Click Submit.
- Select all SNMP nodes.
- Repeat the same steps.
Notes
- This process allows threshold override settings to be changed for multiple nodes at one time.
- Grouping by polling method helps ensure the correct nodes are updated together.
- Review the selected nodes carefully before submitting bulk changes.
- If different polling methods require different override settings, process each group separately.
