Overview

Occurs when a backup task is waiting for data or is waiting for a buffer in which to store data. This type is not typical, except when a task is waiting for a tape mount

Cause

Description:

A backup operation is reading/writing from database data files. Note that all backup waits are accumulated for restore operations too

Resolution

Suggested solutions
  1. Investigate volume hosting database files, upgrade if possible
  2. Use backup compression if available
  3. Remove any unused indexes (less data to backup)
