Attempting to view data in DPA returns a java.lang.NullPointerException

Viewing data in DPA 12.1 returns a java.lang.NullPointerException error.

Overview

When you open a report, view the Trends charts, or view I/O data in DPA, a java.lang.NullPointerException error is displayed.

 

This occurs when the following conditions are present:

  • You are using DPA 12.1.
  • The DPA server is installed on an Amazon EC2 instance. 
  • Embedded Email Server is selected in the Mail Server Configuration dialog.

Cause

The issue is caused by a change in DPA 12.1.

Resolution

Configure DPA to use either the default mail server or a company mail server. 

 

  1. In the DPA menu, click Options.
  2. Under Administration > Configuration, click Configure Mail Server.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • (Recommended) Select Company Mail Server, and then configure your mail server.
    • Select Embedded Mail Server. (This mail server is run by SolarWinds. It is used primarily for DPA trials.)
