Attempting to access the SolarWinds Web Console returns the error NS_ERROR_NET_INADEQUATE_SECURITY

The SolarWInds Web Console won't open and displays an error about inadequate security.

Overview

When you attempt to access the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, you receive the following error:

Error code: NS_ERROR_NET_INADEQUATE_SECURITY

You can access the SolarWinds Platform Web Console in Firefox or Chrome, the SolarWinds Platform server, or a different machine.

Cause

Insecure or weak ciphers are enabled on the SolarWinds Platform server.

Resolution

  1. (Optional) To verify that the issue is weak ciphers, you can change the setting in Firefox to allow the insecure ciphers through:
    1. Open Firefox and type about:config in the address bar.
    2. Click on I accept the risk button.
    3. Type http2 in the search box.
    4. Find network.http.spdy.enabled.http2 and double-click it to make it false (to disable http2).
  2. If the SolarWinds Platform Web Console loads, change the setting back and run iiscrypto in best practices mode.
    1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform server as an administrator.
    2. Download and install IIS Crypto from Nartac.
    3. Open the tool.
    4. Select best practices.
    5. Apply and reboot the server.
  3. Open the SolarWinds Platform Web Console again.
