Cause

The issue is caused if you have updated Windows Server 2008 from PowerShell 2.0 to 3.0. During the update, the PowerShell Session configuration becomes unregistered.

Resolution

Re-register PowerShell:

Open PowerShell via Run as Administrator.
Execute the following command on the target computer:

Register-PSSessionConfiguration -Name Microsoft.PowerShell
