AppInsight for Active Directory applications appear Down and warnings occur in logs after disabling the Total Counters feature in the SAM template
In SAM, AppInsight for Active Directory includes an "Enable total counters" feature that is initially turned off to avoid performance issues for domain controllers in environments with large quantities of users and computers. You can edit the AppInsight for Active Directory application to turn on this feature for individual nodes. If you decide to disable the feature later, AppInsight for Active Directory applications may incorrectly display as Down and warnings may appear in SAM logs.

Overview
The AppInsight for Active Directory template includes an "Enable total counters" feature that is initially turned off, by default, to avoid performance issues for domain controllers in environments with large quantities of users and computers related to counters such as Total User Accounts and Total Inactive Computers.
After assigning the AppInsight for Active Directory template to individual nodes, you can enable this feature in the AppInsight for Active Directory application for a node. See Configure AppInsight for Active Directory on nodes.
If you decide to disable the feature later, AppInsight for Active Directory applications may incorrectly display as Down and warnings may appear in SAM logs.
