Allow Web Console users to change passwords

By default, the Web Console does not offer users the ability to change their own passwords. You can add an item to a users Menu bar that gives them the ability to change their own Web Console password.

Overview

By default, the Web Console does not offer users the ability to change their own passwords. You can add an item to a users Menu bar that gives them the ability to change their own Web Console password. 

 

NOTE: Active Directory users must update the password that they use to access their workstation or server through Windows.  The steps in this article only apply to local Orion accounts.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Web Console with an Admin account.

  2. Open the Settings menu.

  3. Click Customize Menu Bars.

  4. Click Edit for the menu bar assigned to your non-admin users.

  5. At the bottom of this screen, click Add.

  6. Enter the requested information: 

    • Name: Change Password

    • URL: /Orion/Admin/ResetPassword.aspx

    • Description: Allow User to change their own password.

  7. Click OK to save this new item.

  8. Drag the item Change Password from the left column to the right one.

  9. Click Submit.

Now when this user logs in, they will have the option Change Password listed in the Menu bar.
