All objects on Network Atlas maps are grayed out in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console

All objects on the maps are displayed as greyed out icons in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console while they appear as normal in Network Atlas.

Overview

It may not be possible to edit some objects. Objects may be greyed out. Some drop downs may not appear when expected. Behavior may be different in Network Atlas than in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.

Cause

This issue is caused either by insufficient permissions or bad installation of Network Atlas.

Resolution

  1. Go to <Volume>:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Network Atlas\Maps and copy the following folders:
    LEDS
    MapStyles
    NetObjects
    Overlays
  2. Go to <Volume>:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Network Atlas\MapsWeb and paste the copied folders.

 

This can be also fixed with permissions checker upon repair of SolarWinds Platform Network Atlas in Control Panel. Verify that your folders follow the path below and they have the same data:

 

<Volume>:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Network Atlas\Maps
<Volume>:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Network Atlas\MapsWeb

 

If the steps above do not work, make sure that Network Atlas has been installed properly:

 

  1. Backup the following folders from <Volume>:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Network Atlas\Maps:
    LEDS
    MapStyles
    NetObjects
    Overlays
  2. Move the following folders to your backup:
    <Volume>:\Windows\Temp\Solarwinds\Network Atlas
    <Volume>:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Network Atlas 
    <Volume>:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Network Atlas
    <Volume>:\Program Data\Solarwinds\Network Atlas
  3. Create a local server administrator account.
    Note: This can be disabled or even deleted after the installation as it only helps ensure that there will be no permissions issue after the next steps
  4. Login to the SolarWinds server using the created local server administrator account.
  5. Disable the Antivirus program(if you have one) before the installation.
    Note: You can enable the Antivirus program once the installation is complete.
  6. Go to <Volume>:\Program Data\Solarwinds\installers and double click SolarWinds-Orion-NetworkAtlas.msi to install Network Atlas.
  7. Make sure the installation path matches the current SolarWinds Platform installation directory <Volume>:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Network Atlas\.
