This article explains why the Out-of-the-box alert: Alert me when an access port connected to two or more MAC addresses does not work at certain times. It provides an overview on how this alert is designed.

Resolution

  1. Verify the trigger action and make sure that it is similar to the below screenshot.
  2. When simulating or testing the alert and if it does not work, check the port that you are testing to see if it is configured as an access port or tagged port. This is the number one requirement of this alert in NPM, that a port is configured as an Access Port or Tagged Port.
  3. Telnet to the device then type the command: show interface,make sure that the port is tagged or is configured as access port. 
    This illustration shows untagged port, which is considered as trunk port.
