Amazon Linux 2023 OS using Agent polling method does not poll or load List Resources for SolarWinds Platform 2024.3 and below

New Amazon Linux 2023 instances get errors once the SolarWinds Platform Agent is installed.

The node does not poll anymore, and on List Resources, resources keep loading, the progress indicator spinning and prompting users to wait.




In the /opt/SolarWinds/Agent/bin/appdata/Logs/SolarWinds.Agent.JobEngine.Plugin.X log file, you can find the following warning related to the lib file:

[WARN] bool JobEngine::process_finished_jobs(JobEngine::ProcessFinishedJobs&, JobEngine::ScheduledJobInfo_ptr_t, const sw::uuid&, int, const string&, const string&) - JobID[e93f8daa-1511-491a-9724-e9afdbc28e34] ExecID[0344f560-fc0b-4ec8-a313-5ec8513fa774]: failed with exit code 127; /opt/SolarWinds/Agent/bin/Plugins/Python3/bin/python3.10: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypt.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This error message occurs due to the libxcrypt-compat lib is not installed on the Amazon Linux 2023 instance.

The self-hosted SolarWinds Platform starts supporting Amazon Linux 2023 in version 2024.4. To resolve the issue, upgrade to SolarWinds Platform 2024.4 and above. See SolarWinds Platform Agent requirements.

Workaround: Install the libxcrypt-compat lib in the Amazon Linux 2023 instance.

1. In the Linux console, using an account with admin rights, type the following command:
   #yum install libxcrypt-compat

2. Restart the SolarWinds Agent service.

3. Validation: Run the following command to verify that the file that is missing in the Amazon Linux 2023 instance was deployed by libxcrypt-compat lib:
   #dnf repoquery -l libxcrypt-compat
   
   
   The libxcrypt-compat lib deploys the "libcrypt.so.1" file, which is used by the SolarWinds Agent.
   
   Now, List Resources will complete listing available resources and polling will begin.
