Overview
Upon startup, Dameware attempts to export a registry key related to user-specific settings into a temporary .reg file. This process fails with the following error:
"reg export" HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Dameware\Development\NT Utilities\DNTU\Settings" "C:\Users\en08109-a\AppData\Roaming\Dameware\Development\DRS-temp.reg" /y" failed. Application is terminating unexpectedly.
This failure stops Dameware from launching successfully and affects only specific user profiles or environments after the upgrade.

Cause
The error is caused by one or more of the following conditions:
-
Missing registry key:
-
The registry path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Dameware\Development\NT Utilities\DNTU\Settingsmay not exist for the current user profile, especially if Dameware has not been initialized correctly.
-
-
Nonexistent or inaccessible destination directory:
-
The export path
C:\Users\en08109-a\AppData\Roaming\Dameware\Development\might not exist or be writable, especially in environments with roaming profiles or restrictive group policies.
-
-
Insufficient permissions:
-
The user may lack permissions to read from the registry or write to the destination folder.
-
-
Corruption or incomplete upgrade:
-
The upgrade to version 12.3 may have introduced inconsistencies in user-specific settings or registry entries.
-
- regedit.exe is not allowed on the server.
Resolution
Step 1: Verify the Registry Key Exists
Check that the registry key Dameware is trying to export exists:
-
Open Registry Editor (
regedit.exe). -
Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Dameware\Development\NT Utilities\DNTU\Settings -
If the
Settingskey is missing, this may cause the export to fail.-
Optionally, export this key from a working machine and import it.
-
Or reinstall Dameware to reinitialize the registry values.
-
Step 2: Run Dameware as Administrator
Right-click on the Dameware shortcut and select "Run as Administrator". This ensures the app has permission to access the registry and write to protected folders.
Step 3: Make sure that regedit.exe is allowed on the server
