After applying License Key, getting Serv-U License Violation prompt messages

This article describes an issue when applying License Key, getting Serv-U License Violation prompt messages in the Management Console

Overview

The issue occurs when a purchased one seat license has already been applied to a server. If the customer then builds a new server and attempts to apply the same license ,the error message below is thrown:

"Serv-U License Violation. A License Violation has been detected. The registration ID being used on this computers allows installation on 1 computer(s) at a time."

Cause

The Serv-U License Key can not be used on more than one instance at any given time

Resolution

Performed the two options below to resolve the issue:

1. Deactivate/remove the license to the old instance and transfer it to the new one. Shutdown Serv-U Services
2. Obtain a temporary license key and apply it to the new instance. Once everything is set to the new instance, you can go ahead and perform the step 1.
