Overview

When attempting to use the Request File or Send File feature in Serv-U, the system prevents the action from completing and displays an error indicating that outbound email to recipients has been disabled by the administrator. This behavior is controlled by specific email-related policies within the Serv-U configuration.

Cause

This error occurs when the Serv-U domain or server-level setting “Send the guest access link to the recipients” is set to Never. When this option is set to Never, Serv-U blocks File Share actions because these features rely on sending email notifications to external recipients.

Resolution

  • Open the Serv-U Management Console.
  • Navigate to either:
  • Domain > Domain Limits & Settings > File Sharing, or
  • Global> Server Limits & Settings > File Sharing, depending on where the restriction is applied.
  • Ensure that “Send the guest access link to the recipients” is set to Optional (Default) or Always.
  • Retry the Request/Send File Share operation.
