Administration Service Fails to Install or Update in the SolarWinds Platform

In SolarWinds Platform 2024.4, the Administrative Service may repeatedly uninstall and fails to reinstall during the upgrade process.

Overview

Symptoms

SolarWinds Platform attempts to automatically install the latest Administration Service on all servers.
The installer removes the current version of the Administration Service but does not complete the installation of the new version.
As a result, servers are left without the Administration Service installed.
Other SolarWinds services and software modules install successfully, indicating the problem is isolated to the Administration Service.

Cause

The issue occurs because the upgrade installer initiates the uninstall process but fails during the reinstallation stage for the Administrative Service.

This leaves the system in a state where the service is not present.
The exact root cause is under investigation.

Resolution

This issue is addressed in SolarWinds Platform 2026.1. Consider upgrading your environment.

If you cannot upgrade, reinstall the Administration Service manually. The installer is found in C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Installers.
