Adjusting the SWIS execution time out values

This article provide information on how to adjust SWIS config values which might be needed in some distributed setup of Orion with Multiple pollers.

Overview

In a multi poller environment where the main poller is in one Geo location for example UK and the APE or AWS (Additional Web Server ) is in another Goe Location example Singapore you may encounter below SWIS error(s), during an configuration wizard run.

Below error as seen in 12.5 during upgrade to apply HF1

Cause

In Environment where Main poller and AWS or APE are in different Geo-location.

Resolution

1. On the AWS or APE locate ConfigurationWizard.exe.config file in %InstallationDrive%\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion and add/update the following Key value pairs between <appSettings> </appSettings> 
    <add key="SWISConnectionRetries" value="6"/>
    <add key="SWISConnectionRetryIntervalOnFail" value="30"/>
    <add key="SWISConnectionRetryInterval" value="5"/>
    <add key="SWISMaxWaitingTime" value="00:01:30"/>
    <add key="SWISContainerQueryRetryWait" value="00:00:10"/>
    <add key="SWISContainerQueryRetries" value="5"/>
    <add key="SWISContainerQueryTimeout" value="00:00:10"/>
2. Save the file and re-run the configuration wizard

In case you run into same error again, then try to increase the timeout and retry values especially.

For your reference, the default values in ConfigurationWizard.exe.config are as shown below as of NPM 12.5
