Overview

This article addresses the issue where additional polling engines are unable to connect to the SolarWinds server and the Orion Web Console shows the error message:

"Could not connect to Orion Server on xyz".

Product section

Orion Platform

Cause

  • This can occur when DNS is not configured for any machines where the additional polling engines are installed.
  • ICMP traffic is blocked between the Main poller and APE/AWS

Resolution

Resolution 1:
Allow ICMP traffic between the Main poller and APE/AWS

Resolution 2:
Add the IP addresses and host names to the host files on each problematic machine.
Also including the "Additional Web Servers".

Please go to the following article for more information. Host Name Resolution

If all of the above steps were completed, and the Additional Polling engine installation fails downloading packages from the Main polling engine with the same error, please do the following:

  1. Go to the Main polling engine, C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds
  2. Zip or otherwise compress the Installers folder
  3. Copy the folder to Additional Polling engine
  4. Extract the Installers compressed folder to C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds
  5. Start the installation again

The installer will see that they installers it needs are on the server and skip straight to installation without the need to download packages.
