- Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.
- Go to the Manage Alerts view. Click Alerts & Activity > Alerts, and click Manage Alerts in the upper right.
- Select the alert to edit, and click Edit Alert.
- Click on the Trigger Actions tab, and then edit the Email action. For example, click the pencil icon next to the email action.
- Expand Message and click Insert Variable next to Subject or Message to select the variable.
- Select variables to insert, and click Insert Variable.
- You should not "copy and paste" variable codes from other alert email actions - they will often not resolve and you will see "code" in the email message. You can copy and paste within the same message to format the message.
- Complete the wizard.
When the alert triggers, variables in the triggered email are populated with data for the affected nodes.
For a list of variables, go to General alert variables in the NPM online help.
