Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to add a location to the Location field for nodes monitored via SNPM.

The location field is populated by an SNMP Get Request, so nodes that do not send SNMP information to Orion have their location set to Unknown.

It is possible to change the Location field in the database, but on the next polling cycle, Orion will return the Location field to Unknown.

Resolution

1. Create a custom property for your nodes via Settings > All Settings > Manage Custom Properties.

2. Name it Location2 or [Any Name].

3. Request your database administrator to write a query that copies the contents of the Location field of the NodesData table into the Location2 field of the NodesCustomProperties table, using NodeID to correlate entries.

3. Sort your list of nodes in the System Manager and in the Web Console by the Location2 field [Or the name you created].

You can now update the Location2 field [Or the name you created] for your ICMP nodes and have them in their proper groups.
