Overview

The new Log Usage dashboard, accessed from the Loggly Account Overview, can only be viewed by users with SolarWinds Unified Login credentials. However, some Enterprise tier accounts use Loggly Single Sign-On based on the SAML 2.0 protocol (SSO/SAML) instead of a SolarWinds Unified Login. When a user logs in with their SSO/SAML credentials, they cannot access the new Log Usage dashboard.

To gain access to the Log Usage dashboard, the owner of the Enterprise accounts can delete the SSO/SAML users and re-add the users as a SolarWinds Unified Login user.

Cause

The new Log Usage dashboard, accessed from the Loggly Account Overview, can only be viewed by users with SolarWinds Unified Login credentials. Users with existing Loggly SSO/SAML credentials that do not have SolarWinds Unified Login credentials tied to their username and therefore cannot view the Log Usage dashboard.

Note: If a user has both a Loggly SSO/SAML credential and a SolarWinds Unified Login credential, the user can access the dashboard. The user should log out of Loggly and log back in selecting the Local Login, using the SolarWinds Unified Login credentials.

Resolution

To grant access to the Log Usage dashboard for Loggly users with only SSO/SAML credentials, the account owner should delete the affected users and re-add them as SolarWinds Unified Login users. These steps require coordination between the Loggly SSO/SAML user and the account owner and will remove any Alerts, Charts, Dashboards, Saved Searches, and Source Groups that the SSO/SAML user created.
  1. User: Log out of the Loggly account and do not log back in with your organization’s SSO/SAML credentials until all steps have been completed.
  2. Account Owner: log into the owner’s account using SolarWinds Unified Login credentials and navigate to Settings, Users.
  3. Account Owner: locate the SSO/SAML account(s) that do not have access to the Log Usage dashboard and click the x at the end of the row(s) to delete the account(s).
You can find SSO/SAML accounts by looking for users with Corporate Login listed in their Roles.
  4. Account Owner: click Add a New User to re-add the previously deleted user. Fill out the Add User form using the same email address as their corporate (SSO/SAML) login and click Save.
  5. User: After accepting the emailed invitation to the Loggly account, click Local Login and enter your first name, last name, and a new password in the fields provided and click Create Profile.
The user is logged in with the SolarWinds Unified Login and has access to the Log Usage dashboard.
Users who have completed this process can log in with either the organization’s SSO/SAML credentials or with the SolarWinds Unified Login password used when recreating the account. When they click Corporate Login, the organization (SSO/SAML) credentials should be used and the Log Usage dashboard will not be accessible. However, if the user clicks Local Login and logs in with the email address and the newly created password associated with the SolarWinds Unified Login, the Log Usage dashboard will be accessible.
