About Jobs and Tasks
Checking your Patch Manager resource settings In Patch Manager, jobs and tasks have separate roles. Tasks contain more than one job. Resources are often split between several components, which are listed below. When you Open the Patch Manager Administrator Console, you may see only eight connections under Active Tasks. Within the application, more than eight jobs are running, which can calculate to more than one job working for each connection and task.
Check the settings for the resources running on your Patch Manager server. They may need some adjustment. See Requirements in the Patch Manager Administrator Guide for details. When you review your Patch Manager resources, use the following guidelines:
- Check the Maximum Concurrent Jobs, Maximum Worker Process, and Maximum Thread Pool settings.
The following table describes the resources and corresponding settings.

| Maximum Concurrent Jobs |
Manages remote network activity, which includes publishing packages, patching, inventory and discovery tasks, synchronizing catalogs, and so on. |

A separate application in Patch Manager that runs when some tasks or jobs must be executed simultaneously. This process divides resources between processes so the application interface can monitor the task or job and ensure that they execute properly. |

The number of threads inside one worker process. For example, a single task can execute patches on several computers. Not all tasks use the maximum thread pool settings at one time. You will only see visible threads that are using the thread pool concurrently. This provides useful information, but changes quickly when you observe the CPU thread usage. |
