Unable to upgrade an Additional Web Server after database migration

After migrating the database the Additional Web Server fails to upgrade with a SQL error.

Overview

After migrating the database to a new server and upgrading the Primary Polling Engine, the Additional Web Server fails to communicate with the SQL server and cannot be upgraded.

Error description:

Can't receive data from SolarWinds Information Service

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider. error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

The network path was not found.

Cause

Installation was pointed to an SQL server that no longer exists.

Resolution

  1. Connect to the Primary Polling Engine.
  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\ in file explorer and copy the swnetperfmon.db file.
  3. Connect to the Additional Web Server.
  4. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\ in file explorer and back up the swnetperfmon.db file.
  5. Paste the swnetperfmon.db file from the Primary Polling Engine - if prompted, replace the existing file.
  6. Re-run the installer on the Additional Web Server.
