Overview

This article will cover why a DPA  would  group as weeks not days. In the trend view charts

Questions are like the following:

"Some of my views for specific instances are setup in a daily view and the others are grouped by week, I want to be able to see daily no matter what instance I am monitoring and I cannot find the settings anywhere. "

DPA uses a formula to determine if we are going to group by day or by week. There is no setting to change it. This helps to make sure the charts fit in the allotted spaces on the page when there is more data in DPA retention .

Background:
DPA will look at a table for each monitored server that has the time of detail data it has for the retention settings selected. Each registered server in DPA has a row in the table COND with an ID. There is then a table or set of tables with underscore and that ID in the name example CONTT_1 is the instance registered first with ID = 1 on COND. Here represented with _X

Here is the formula:
startTime - earliest time in CONTT_X
endTime - latest time in CONTT_X

difference = endTime - startTime

(The difference is in days rounded up)

You can get start and end times from CONTT_X or you can look at the "Days" dropdown on the Trend page to get the number of days.

Logic for trend chart granularity:
If difference *24 < 73 then HOUR granularity // 3 days or less than HOUR
If difference <= 95 then DAY granularity // 95 days or less than DAY
If difference / 7 <= 104 then WEEK granularity // 104 weeks or less WEEK
Otherwise MONTH granularity

DPA by default retains 30 days of detailed data. It does not have to be 30 consecutive days however. Example if a monitor is stopped for a week and then started it will have a gap in data but, the startTime and endTime can still have impact on the formula of the graph.

The only way to set the graph to days is to retain less data in DPA see article DPA retention.
