Recover ipMonitor 10 in the event of a disaster

Recovering ipMonitor 10 in the event of a disaster can be accomplished with little effort and time as long as a few things have been prepared in advanced. Here's what needs to be done:


  1. Ensure that you can login to the SolarWinds Customer Portal ( and download the latest ipMonitor 10 installation bundle.


  1. Stop the ipMonitorSrv service
  2. Copy the ipMonitor installation directory to a backup location. This is typically (c:\program files\SolarWinds\ipMonitor\)
  3. Start the ipMonitorSrv service
  4. Login to the ipMonitor web interface.
  5. Click the "Configuration" tab.
  6. Click "Scheduled Maintenance Tasks -> Recurring Internal Maintenance".
  7. Ensure that "Archive ipMonitor Configuration" is selected and make sure a Backup Credential is specified within the "Backup Credential" box. Also make sure you know the password for this Backup Credential.
  8. Click "Backup Now".
  9. Copy the backup file to the backup location.


  1. Copy the backed up directory and backup file to the new system.
  2. Delete \solarwinds\ipMonitor\config\cred\credentials.db
  3. Install ipMonitor 10 on top of the copied ipMonitor directory.
  4. Run \ipMonitor\ipmrestore.exe and point it to the backup file.
  5. At this point your installation should be replicated with a trial license for 21 days and 1000 Monitors. Contact the SolarWinds Customer Service department in order to get your license reset.
