Move a licensed installation of ipMonitor 10

Overview

This article provides steps to move a licensed installation of ipMonitor 10.

Steps

Upgrade ipMonitor

On the old system:

  1. Stop the ipMonitorSrv service.
  2. Copy the ipMonitor installation directory to the new system. The default location is C:\program files\solarwinds\ipMonitor\.
  3. 3. Start the ipMonitorSrv service.

 

On the new system:

  1. Delete the -\solarwinds\ipMonitor\config\cred\credentials.db file.
  2. Overwrite the old version copied from the old system with the new downloaded version.

The new version will run as a trial for 21 days with 500 monitors.

Migrate your credentials

  1. Log in to the old ipMonitor installation web interface.
  2. Click Configuration > Scheduled Maintenance Tasks > Recurring Internal Maintenance.
  3. Verify that the Archive ipMonitor Configuration option is selected.
  4. Verify that a credential is specified in Encryption Credential.
  5. Click Backup Now.
  6. Copy the backup file to the new ipMonitor system.
  7. Run -\ipMonitor\ipmrestore.exe and point it to the backup file.
  8. Enter the password for the backup credential.

Migrate your license

  1. Run the SolarWinds License Manager on the old system. 
  2. Select ipMonitor and click Deactivate. 
  3. Confirm License Deactivation.
  4. When License Deactivate Results displays, click Close.
  5. On the new system, go to Start > All Programs > SolarWinds ipMonitor > click Enter License Information.
  6. Enter your activation key, and then click Next. 
  7. Fill in your information, and click Next > Finish.


You can now uninstall ipMonitor from the old system.
