Monitor devices or services that use non-standard protocol or port

There are two ways to monitor a non-standard device or service on a non-standard port.

If the service or devices uses the HTTP protocol, you can create an HTML/ASP monitor with a blank search string that can monitor availability:

1. Click the Devices tab, and then select the device.

2. On the Add menu, click Add New Monitor.

3. On the left column, click TCP/IP (Common).

4. Click HTML/ASP.

5. In the Monitor Name box, enter a monitor name.

6. In the IP Address / Domain Name box, enter the IP address of the device or service.

7. In the TCP Port box, enter the TCP port of the device or service.

8. Leave the Search String box blank.

9. Click OK.

 

If the service or device uses a connection-based protocol, you can create a telnet monitor that can monitor availability.

 

1. Click the Devices tab, and then select the device.

2. On the Add menu, click Add New Monitor.

3. On the left column, click Low Bandwidth.

4. Click Telnet.

5. In the Monitor Name box, enter a monitor name.

6. In the IP Address / Domain Name box, enter the IP address of the device or service.

7. In the TCP Port box, enter the TCP port of the device or service.

8. Click OK.
