Monitor IBM Informix databases

You can monitor IBM Informix databases with the ADO and the ADO User Experience monitors. These monitors require that the appropriate OLEDB provider for your database be installed on the ipMonitor host computer.

The IBM Informix OLEDB Provider, contained in the IBM Informix Client Software Development Kit (SDK), is available for download from the IBM website. 

You will need:

  • The system name and host name of the IBM Informix database.
  • The service name of the IBM Informix database.
  • A user name and password to access the IBM Informix Database.

 

To configure the OLE DB connection:

  1. Install the IBM Informix OLEDB Provider.
    1. Download the IBM Informix Provider to the ipMonitor host machine.
    2. Run setup.exe to begin the installation process.
    3. Click Next, and then accept the End User License Agreement.
    4. Enter your User Name and Organization.
    5. Select Complete Installation.
    6. Click Install.
  2. Configure the OLE DB connection
    1. With a text editor, open the following file for editing:
      C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc\services
    2. Append the following to the end of the services file:
      serviceName portNumber/tcp #Service informixServiceName Informix Instance
      Example:
      turbo1     1527/tcp     #Service ipmsptwin2003 Informix Instance
    3. Save and close the services file.
    4. Run IBM Informix Setnet32 from Start > All Programs > IBM Informix Client > Setnet32.
    5. Click the Server Information tab.
    6. Enter the IBM Informix Server, HostName, Protocolname, and Service Name of the IBM Informix database.
    7. Click Make Default Server.
    8. Click the Host Information tab.
    9. Enter the Current Host, User Name, Password Option and Password required to access the IBM Informix Database.
    10. Click OK to close the IBM Informix Setnet32 application.
