Monitor IBM Informix databases with ipMonitor

Overview

This article describes how to monitor IBM Informix databases with the ADO and ADO User Experience monitors. These monitors require you to install the appropriate Object Linking and Embedding Database (OLEDB) provider for your database on the computer hosting ipMonitor.

The IBM Informix OLEDB Provider is included with the IBM Informix Client Software Development Kit (SDK), which you can download from the IBM website.

Details

Locate the system resources

Before you begin, locate and record the following resources:

  • System name and host name of the IBM Informix database
  • Service name of the IBM Informix database
  • User name and password to access the IBM Informix database.

Install the IBM Informix OLEDB Provider

  1. Download the IBM Informix Provider to the system hosting ipMonitor.
  2. Open a Run box and execute the follwoing to begin the installation process:
    setup.exe
  3. Click Next, 
  4. If you accept the End User License Agreement, click Next.
  5. Enter your user name and organization
  6. Select Complete Installation.
  7. Click Install.

Configure the OLE DB connection

  1. Open the following file with a text editor:
    C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc\services
  2. Append the following to the end of the services file:
    serviceName portNumber/tcp #Service informixServiceName Informix Instance
    For example:
    turbo1 1527/tcp #Service ipmsptwin2003 Informix Instance
  3. Save and close the services file.
  4. Navigate to Start > All Programs > IBM Informix Client > Setnet32.
  5. Run IBM Informix Setnet32.
  6. Click the Server Information tab.
  7. Enter the IBM Informix Server, HostName, Protocolname, and Service Name of the IBM Informix database.
  8. Click Make Default Server.
  9. Click the Host Information tab.
  10. Enter the Current Host, User Name, Password Option and Password required to access the IBM Informix Database.
  11. Click OK to close the IBM Informix Setnet32 application.
