Install and configure SNMP services on a monitored Windows system using ipMonitor


This article describes how to install and configure SNMP services on a monitored system running Microsoft Windows. 


All ipMonitor versions


Install the SNMP service

  1. Log in to the target system.
  2. Access the Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  4. Double click Management and Monitoring Tools.
  5. Select Simple Network Management Protocol, and then click OK.
  6. Click Next.
  7. If required, insert the Windows Installation CD. 
  8. Click "Next" and insert the Windows installation CD if required.
  9. Run the installer.

Verify the security settings

After you install the SNMP service, verify the security settings to ensure that ipMonitor is allowed to communicate with the service. 

  1. In the Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools > Services.
  2. Double-click SNMP service.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. In the tab window, verify that:
    • A community name is specified.
    • Accept SNMP packets from any host is selected OR the ipMonitor system is listed within the Accept SNMP packets from these hosts list.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart the SNMP service if you made any changes.
