Overview

This article describes WPM Support for PAC scripts.

Environment

WPM 2.2.1 and earlier

Steps

WPM does not support the use of PAC scripts. It is possible to set proxy details per transaction in the Web Console when you assign a recording or when you browse to a transaction and then edit it.

  1. Verify that you do not have the Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user) group policy enabled on the player machine.
  2. Run Gpedit.msc
  3. In the left pane, expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components.
  4. Select Internet Explorer.
  5. In the right pane, double-click Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user).
  6. Select Not Configured and then click OK.
  7. Run Gpupdate /force
  8. Restart the SolarWinds SEUM Playback Player service.
  9. Go to the Transaction edit page and expand the Advanced section.
  10. Fill in the Proxy URL field. Use the complete proxy URL in the following format http://123.123.123.123:8080
  11. Save the transaction.

If you do not want to define the proxy per transaction, you can define it for the whole player. Configure the web proxy in Internet Explorer and then change the computer settings to make the proxy settings per-machine instead of per-user.

  1. Configure Internet Explorer to use a web proxy. Refer to Microsoft KB 135982 (© 2016 Microsoft, available at https://support.microsoft.com/EN-US/kb/135982, obtained on July 1, 2016.)
  2. Run Gpedit.msc
  3. In the left pane, expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components.
  4. Select Internet Explorer.
  5. In the right pane, double-click Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user).
  6. Select Enabled and then click OK.
  7. Run Gpupdate /force
  8. Restart the SolarWinds SEUM Playback Player service.

Note: If the proxy is defined “per-machine,” any setting that is defined “per-transaction” through the transaction edit page will be ignored.
