Web Console does not load after SQL server patching


The WHD Web Console does not load after Windows/SQL server patches are applied through WSUS with the following error message in the WHD logs:

SQL server rejects connections


The following error message appears when trying to connect to the server using MS SQL Management Console:

You cannot connect to a server that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2014 or SQL Server 2012 by using the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol version 1.2.

The following error message is also logged in the SQL Server error log:

TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x80090331, status code 0x80. Reason: Unable to initialize SSL support. The client and server cannot communicate, because they do not possess a common algorithm.


  • All WHD versions
  • Windows 2008 server
  • MS SQL 2012


This occurs when TLS 1.0 disabled. SQL does not support connections with TLS 1.1+
