Overview

The following error appears while opening a web page in Web Help Desk after a recent upgrade to version 11.x

java.lang.StackOverflowError

Environment

WHD version 11.0.x and 11.2.x 

Cause 

The issue is caused by incorrect values existing in the CUSTOM_FIELD_DEFINITION table of the Web Help Desk database.

 

Resolution

Warning: SolarWinds strongly recommends that you create a full backup of your database. The following procedure can cause permanent changes on your database. 

1. Modify the CUSTOM_FIELD_DEFINITION table.

a. Open a SQL Query to the WHD database.

b. Execute the following SQL statements:

UPDATE CUSTOM_FIELD_DEFINITION
SET OLD_CUSTOM_FIELD_NUMBER=NULL
;

 

2. Stop the WHD service.

a. Click Start > All Programs. 

b. Click the Web Help Desk folder.

c. Right-click the Stop Web Help Desk shortcut icon. 

d. Select Run as administrator. 

 

3. Start the WHD service.

a. Click Start > All Programs. 

b. Click the Web Help Desk folder.

c. Right-click the Start Web Help Desk shortcut icon. 

d. Select Run as administrator.
