Run Web Help Desk on Port 80 or 443 with IIS

This article provides steps to run the Web Help Desk and IIS on the same machine without any port conflicts.

The only way to run the Web Help Desk and IIS on the same machine without a port conflict is to use multiple IP addresses on the machine.


All WHD versions


Important: Specifiy IIS to listen on the IP that the Web Help Desk is not using in the IP_ADDRESS option of whd.conf


Edit C:\Program Files\WebHelpDesk\conf\whd.conf. Set the IP_ADDRESS option to the target IP.

Note: You must bind IIS to a different IP. IIS listens on all IPs, even if your site is set to use a specific IP.

For Windows Server 2003:

  1. At a command prompt, switch to the C:\Program Files\Support Tools folder.
  2. Type the following command: httpcfg set iplisten -i,
    where is the IP address you want IIS to listen to.
  3. Enter the following command to check your settings: httpcfg query iplisten.
  4. Restart your server after making the change.

For Windows Server 2008+:

  1. Log on with the local Administrator account.
  2. Open a command prompt window.
  3. Enter the following: netsh http add iplisten ipaddress=<your> </your>
  4. Enter the following to check to check your settings: netsh show iplisten.
    Check the IP Address bindings of any sites defined in IIS and make sure they are using the IP you have set to listen on (not "*").
  5. Restart IIS.
