Migrate Web Help Desk from Frontbase to a supported database

Overview

This article describes how to migrate Web Help Desk running FrontBase to another supported database.

Environment

Web Help Desk version prior to 12.0

Steps

Back up your database and your WebHelpDesk\Conf folder before you perform the following steps. 

 

  1. Stop the Web Help Desk service on the existing server.  
  2. Copy the WebHelpDesk\Conf folder to a safe location.
  3. Install Web Help Desk on the new server. 
  4. Stop the Web Help Desk service on the new server. 
  5. Navigate to the <WebHelpDesk> directory on the new server.
    Apple® OS X®: /Library/WebHelpDesk    
    Microsoft Windows®:  \Program Files\WebHelpDesk    
    Linux: /usr/local/webhelpdesk
  6. Replace the following files from the configuration directory backup to the configuration directory in the new installation.

    whd.properties (DB connection settings)

    whd.conf (port and memory settings)

    keystore.jks (SSL Certificate if any)

  7. If you are changing the location of your database, change the database connection settings on the new installation.  

  8. Start the Web Help Desk service on the new server.
