javax.naming.AuthenticationException: Invalid credentials for user

Overview

When attempting to log-in to Web Help Desk, you may receive the following error message:

 

  • javax.naming.AuthenticationException: Invalid credentials for user '<username = UserName bindingPrincipal = CN=UserName,CN=Users,dc=subdomain,dc=domain,dc=com>'

 

Environment

  • Web Help Desk, version 11.2.x
  • Web Help Desk, version 11.0.x
  • Web Help Desk, version 10.x

 

Cause 

The problem may occur if special characters exist in the password for an Active Directory User Account includes.


 

 

Resolution

  1. Web Help Desk does not support special characters in usernames and passwords. A valid username may contain only the characters a-z, A-Z, 0-9, period (.), dash (-) and underscore ( _ ). A valid passwords may contain only the characters a-z, A-Z, 0-9, period (.), dash (-) and underscore ( _ ).
