Web Help Desk generates the following error when opening an asset:
java.lang.InstantiationException: com.macsdesign.whd.AssetContainer

Detail

Modify the whd-web-jar file in your Web Help Desk home directory as instructed below.

SolarWinds strongly recommends that you edit the whd-web-jar file only as instructed. Any additional modifications may result in system performance issues or may create an error state.

  1. Log in to Web Help Desk as an administrator.
  2. Stop Web Help Desk.
  3. Navigate to your Web Help Desk home directory.
    • Apple OSX: /Library/WebHelpDesk
    • Microsoft Windows: \Program Files\WebHelpDesk
    • Linux: /user/local/webhelpdesk
  4. Navigate to the following directory: 
    \bin\webapps\helpdesk\WEB-INF\lib\
  5.  Open the whd-web-jar file using an archive or extraction tool:
  6. In the archive, navigate to the following directory:
    \Resources\assetSearch.wo\
  7. Open the AssetSearch.wod file in a text editor. 
  8. Replace the following text:
    AssetContainer1:AssetContainer
    with
    AssetContainer1: com.macsdesign.whd.ui.AssetContainer
  9. Save the file back to the archive.
  10. Start Web Help Desk.
    The asset should now open without errors.
