Web Console does not load after patching SQL Server


The WHD Web Console does not load after Windows/SQL server patches are applied through WSUS. When this issue occurs, the following error message is recorded in the WHD logs:

SQL server rejects connections


When you try to connect to the server using the Microsoft SQL Management Console, the following error display: 

You cannot connect to a server that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2014 or SQL Server 2012 by using the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol version 1.2.


The following error message is also logged in the SQL Server error log:

TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x80090331, status code 0x80. Reason: Unable to initialize SSL support. The client and server cannot communicate, because they do not possess a common algorithm.


  • All WHD versions
  • Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 
  • Microsoft SQL Server® 2012


Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 disabled. SQL Server does not support connections with TLS 1.1 and later.
