WHD Virtual Appliance hostname changes back to the original hostname after restart

Overview

When changing the hostname of the WHD Appliance, it keeps reverting to the original hostname after a restart. 

Environment

  •  WHD 12.x and later
  • WHD Virtual Appliance

Cause 

The Network Manager Daemon sometimes interferes with the manual configuration to change the VA hostname. In order to have it stick after changing the WHD VA hostname, you need to disable the Network Manager Daemon.

Resolution

  1. Check if the Network Manager Daemon is running. If so, stop the service then disable it. 
  2. Run the following command:
    • To check if the Network Manager Daemon is running:
      #service Network Manager status 
    • To stop the Network Manager service:
      #service NetworkManager stop
    • To disable the Network Manager service:
      #chkconfig NetworkManager off
