WHD Virtual Appliance Stuck in Console Login Screen

Overview

After restarting Web Help Desk  Virtual Appliance, the Virtual Appliance gets stuck on a Console Login Screen with the last line as  "Starting crond [OK]".

However, Web Help Desk is working as Tech and Clients are all able to login to the web interface.

The same behavior is seen even after restarting the Virtual Appliance using the following commands:

#service webhelpdesk stop
#service webhelpdesk start

Environment

WHD 12.0

Resolution

1. SSH into the Virtual Appliance using the admin credentials.
2. Update the config file /etc/init/start-ttys.conf adding the line "initctl start vamitty TTY=/dev/tty1" before the end of the script. It should like:
#
# This service starts the configured number of gettys.

start on stopped rc RUNLEVEL=[2345]

env ACTIVE_CONSOLES=/dev/tty[2-6]
env X_TTY=/dev/tty1
task
script
        . /etc/sysconfig/init
        for tty in $(echo $ACTIVE_CONSOLES) ; do
                [ "$RUNLEVEL" = "5" -a "$tty" = "$X_TTY" ] && continue
                initctl start tty TTY=$tty
        done
initctl start vamitty TTY=/dev/tty1
end script

3. Restart your whole VA.
