Updated: November 14, 2017

Overview

When you upgrade your Web Help Desk server to Apple® macOS® 10.13.x (High Sierra), all Apache® Tomcat® web applications fail.

Environment

  • macOS 10.13.x
  • Apache Tomcat 7.0.x

Cause

Oracle® Java™ bug.

Workaround

Disable GNU zip (gzip) compression for the connector port assignments in the Apache Tomcat server template file.

  1. Stop Web Help Desk.
  2. Navigate to /Library/WebHelpDesk/conf.
  3. Open the tomcat_server_template.xml file in a text editor (such as TextEdit).

  4. Disable connector compression for the Web Help Desk HTTP Start connector port assignments.
    1. Locate the following entry:
      @@@WEBHELPDESK_HTTP_START@@@
    2. Under the first connector port assignment, locate:
      compression="on"
    3. Change the parameter to:
      compression="off"
    4. Repeat step a through step c for the second connector port assignment.

  5. Disable the connector compression for the Web Help Desk SSL Start connector port assignments.
    1. Locate the following entry:
      @@@WEBHELPDESK_SSL_START@@@
    2. Under the first connector port assignment, locate:
      compression="on"
    3. Change the parameter to:
      compression="off"
    4. Repeat step a through step c for the second connector port assignment.

  6. Save and close the file.
  7. Start Web Help Desk
