Set up Web Help Desk to be accessible outside your network

Overview

This article describes how to configure Web Help Desk to be accessible outside of your local network.

All Web Help Desk versions

Steps

Web Help Desk 12.5 and later

 

  1. Click Setup > General > Options.
  2. In the Server DNS Name field, enter a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or DNS Name/Public IP address that can be reached by systems inside and outside of your local network.

  3. Click Save.
  4. If you are using the default port, change the Web Help Desk listening port setting.
    1. Click Server Options.
    2. Modify the HTTP and HTTPS ports as required.
    3. Click Save.
  5. Restart Web Help Desk

Web Help Desk 12.4.2 and earlier

  1. Click Setup > General > Options.
  2. In the DNS Name field, enter a DNS name or public IP address that can be reached by systems inside and outside of your local network. 
  3. Click Save.
  4. If you are using the default port, change the Web Help Desk listening port setting (if required).
  5. Navigate to your WebHelpDesk directory.
    macOS:  /Library/WebHelpDesk    
    Microsoft® Windows®:  \Program Files\WebHelpDesk    
    Linux: /usr/local/webhelpdesk
  6. Navigate to the conf directory.
  7. Open the whd.conf file in a text editor (such as Notepad).
  8. Locate and modify the DEFAULT_PORT setting.
  9. Save your changes. 
  10. Restart Web Help Desk.
