HTTP Status 404: The requested resource () is not available

After installing Web Help Desk, the browser shows a 404 error when connecting to the site using one of the following formats:





All WHD versions running on Linux


The hostname is not correctly assigned to the server.


  1. Stop the Web Help Desk service.
  2. Create an SSH connection to the VA using PuTTY (or any SSH Client).
  3. Enter sudo su - to switch to user root.
  4. Enter hostname to verify the actual hostname of the server.
  5. Enter vi /etc/hosts to edit or check the host file if it has the same assigned hostname.
  6. Replace/Edit the host file to reflect the correct hostname and ip address.
    Press A to edit.
    Press Shift + zz to save and quit the editor when done with the changes.
  7. Restart the Web Help Desk service.
