WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

The following error displays while synchronizing a Discovery Connection in Web Help Desk:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Discovery engine failed to provide asset number for asset

Environment

Web Help Desk 10.x

Web Help Desk 11.x

Web Help Desk 12.x

Cause

The Asset No. Field for the discovery connection contains an incorrect Next value.

Resolution

  1. Log onto Web Help Desk as an administrator or as a user with administrator privileges.
  2. Click Setup > Assets > Discovery Connections.
  3. Click a connection.
  4. Click the Attribute Mapping tab, and then click the pencil icon to enter Edit mode.
  5. In the Asset No. row, change the Next value field value from 1 to 2.

The sample asset (Epson Stylus Pro) is assigned to Asset No. 1 in Web Help Desk. As a result, the next value must be configured as 2.
