Database Connections and PostgreSQL Max Connection in Web Help Desk

Overview

This article describes how to properly modify the DATABASE_CONNECTIONS in the Web Help Desk whd.conf file and MAX_CONNECTIONS in the postgresql.conf file.

Environment

  • Web Help Desk version 12.5.2
  • PostgreSQL
  • Windows Environment

Detail

When you modify the number of allowed database connections in your whd.conf file, you should always set the DATABASE_CONNECTIONS as 50% of your max_connections in your postgresql.conf file.

 

Please see the example below.

Database connections in whd.conf file

  1. Go to <WebHelpDesk>\conf (by default, C:\Program Files\WebHelpDesk\conf).
  2. Open whd.conf in a text editor such as Notepad.
  3. Search for Database Connections and set the number of allowed simultaneous database connections.
    # ------------------------------------------------------
    # Database Connections
    #
    # Number of allowed simultaneous database connections.
    # Large installations may benefit from increasing this limit. 
    
    DATABASE_CONNECTIONS=50
  4. Save the file.
  5. Restart the Web Help Desk service.

Database connections in postgresql.conf file

  1. Go to <WebHelpDesk>\pgsql9\data (by default, C:\Program Files\WebHelpDesk\pgsql9\data).
  2. Open postgresql.conf in a text editor such as Notepad.
  3. Search for CONNECTIONS AND AUTHENTICATION and set the value of max_connections.
    # (change requires restart)
    max_connections = 100    ​​​​​
  4. Save the file.
  5. Restart the Web Help Desk service.
