Error when opening the WHD Web Console


When you open the Web Help Desk Web Console, an error message displays, stating that Web Help Desk is not available. The following error message may also display in the console:

FATAL: sorry, too many clients already


  • WHD 12.x
  • PostgreSQL 9.x


By default, the PostgreSQL database can accept up to 80 connections. If Web Help Desk is configured to exceed this amount, an error message displays.  


  1. Log in to the Web Help Desk server as an administrator.
  2. Stop Web Help Desk.
  3. Navigate to the Web Help Desk directory. 
    - Apple® OS X®:  /Library/WebHelpDesk    
    - Microsoft® Windows®:  \Program Files\WebHelpDesk    
    - Linux:  /usr/local/webhelpdesk
  4. Open the /conf directory.
  5. Open the whd.conf file in a text editor. 
  6. Locate the following line:
  7. Change the value to 10, as shown below.
  8. Save and close the file.
  9. Start Web Help Desk
