Overview

This article describes the issue when you send an email to update a ticket and you receive the following error message: 

Local address contains illegal character

Environment

All versions of WHD

Cause 

This error message occurs due to an invalid email address specified from the Outgoing Mail Accounts - Web Help Desk E-Mail Address.

Resolution

  1. Check the Outgoing Mail Accounts settings, and see that the Web Help Desk E-Mail Address has no invalid character (i.e http:, www, etc...).
  2. Go to Setup > E-Mail > Outgoing Mail Accounts.
  3. Select Account and input the Web Help Desk E-Mail Address.
