Enable clients to logon to Web Help Desk without a password

Overview

You want to allow clients to log in to Web Help Desk (WHD) without using a password.

Environment

  • Windows
  • Linux
  • Mac OSX

Solution

WHD has a Java startup parameter to control this function. You can edit this parameter and make WHD run without having to use login credentials.

For Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris

  1. Go to <webhelpdesk>/conf/ > Open 'whd.conf' file >
  2. Add > JAVA_OPTS="-DWHDIgnoreClientPassword=true"</webhelpdesk>
  3. Stop/Start the WHD application.
  4. Now you can login to WHD without authentication.

For Windows

  1. Go to <webhelpdesk>\bin\wrapper\conf\ > Open 'wrapper_template.conf' </webhelpdesk>
  2. Add the following line in the "# Java Additional Parameters" section of that file making the 16 the next sequential number in the list.

    wrapper.java.additional.16=-DWHDIgnoreClientPassword=true

  3. You will then need to restart web help desk for the changes to take effect (making sure to right click and run as administrator when stopping and starting the program).

  4. Clients should now be able to login to WHD without authentication.

***   Clearing the browser cache will log the client\users out of Web Helpdesk and they have to enter their credentials again   ***
