Customize the subject line for Web Help Desk emails

Overview

This article describes how to customize email Subject line(s) used by Web Help Desk.

Environment

  • Windows
  • Mac OS X
  • Linux

Steps

Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X:

  1. Stop Web Help Desk
  2. Open the Web Help Desk home directory.
    Apple® OS X: /Library/WebHelpDesk    
    Windows: \Program Files\WebHelpDesk  
  3. Navigate to /conf/labels. 
  4. Backup or duplicate the Labels.properties file and rename the duplicate file CustomLabels.properties.
  5. Open the CustomLabels.properties file in Notepad or any text editing application
  6. Scroll down to E-Mail Subjects and select the template you want to edit.
  7. Save and close the file.
  8. Start Web Help Desk

 

Linux or Virtual Appliance deployment

  1. Open PuTTY. 
  2. SSH to the Virtual Appliance or Linux box as an admin.
  3. Change to the user root.

    sudo su - 

  4. Stop Web Help Desk.

    service webhelpdesk stop

  5. Open the Web Help Desk directory at:

    /usr/local/webhelpdesk

  6. Navigate to /conf/labels. 
  7. Copy the labels.properties file and rename the new file CustomLabel.properties.
    cp/usr/local/webhelpdesk/conf/labels/Labels.properties/usr/local/webhelpdesk/conf/labels/CustomLabels.properties
    
  8. Open the CustomLabels.properties file.
    vi /usr/local/webhelpdesk/conf/labels/CustomLabels.properties
  9. Search for the E-Mail Subjects portion of the file.

    /E-Mail Subjects

  10. Select the template that you want to edit.

    To edit the file, press A and then replace the test or enter the information you want to add to the file.

  11. Press <Esc> + <Shift> + <Z> + <Z> to exit the editor and save the file.
  12. Start Web Help Desk.

    service webhelpdesk start
